Diabeatit

Diabeatit is an educational game for children ages 8 to 13, designed to teach them about Type 2 diabetes. Diabeatit is a continuing project in the class ENG 100L that has a new team every quarter at UCSD. Diabeatit is under the Global TIES program at UCSD which fosters social innovation and sustainable development as students design solutions for communities in San Diego and in developing countries worldwide.

Design goals created after reviewing Continuity Report from the Fall 2024 team:

  1. Design and implement an end screen

  2. Prepare a poster for the poster session

  3. Conduct usability testing

Designing an End Screen

The end screen was designed to be simple, educational, and motivating. I used the design team's ideation sketch to create an end screen on Figma. We settled on having a receipt feature where users can learn about each item they chose through Gluccy the Glucose's comments.

Poster Presentation 

Every quarter, Global TIES hosts a project showcase where teams present posters to various individuals promoting the program and the work that has been done. I lead the design of the poster for this quarter creating a visually fun and informative poster.

Usability Testing

With the game approaching deployment, we began reaching out to elementary schools to connect with teachers. I created a general writeup about Diabeatit to share with schools supporting efficient communication between our team liaison and the community.

  • Example Iteration from Usability Testing:

    • Two users reported that they thought the max score of the mini game was 100. When regrouping as a team, we realized that this is the most intuitive way to think about scores, so we changed the scores to have a max of 100.
